This has been an
exciting year. We have released the Secure Access Management System
with great success, created and supported a National Users Group
and watched our customer base grow.
This issue of the
newsletter includes several exciting announcements including the
release of our new web site with enhanced customer support features,
capabilities for product updates and easier navigation.
Engineering has
been busy this past quarter on several fronts. First, we have been
working on enhancing SAMS - the Secure Access Management System
to accommodate hosts supporting ANSI, VT100 and VT200 telnet sessions.
This is in addition to the 3270 support that was in the first release
of SAMS.
CCS and SmartClient
have been enhanced to accept character translation tables for international
support. SmartClient can now accept syslog message from UNIX hosts
directly, as well has support for SNMP. System i (AS/400, i5, I
series) support has also been added into SmartClient.
An Authentication
Manager has been incorporated into the EMS1000 configuration that
allows all CCS and SmartClient servers defined on the system to
use a single point of control for user authentication. This eases
the administration of user accounts by providing a single place
to configure user accounts. Users can also use the EMS1000 web configuration
to change their own passwords.
Finally, we have
been integrating the SmartClient Event Manager into the EMS1000.
The SmartClient Enterprise Manager gives organizations the ability
to assign events to specific operators for resolution and tracking.
You can now configure and manage the SmartClient Event Manager through
our powerful and easy to use web configuration interface.
We are excited
to announce that this year I/O Concepts had our Inaugural National
Users Group Conference in lovely Ilwaco Washington.
Representatives
from over a dozen of our customers participated and really made
this an exciting and informative event. We received wonderful feedback
from customers on product direction, support and enhancements.
This was primarily
a training and learning opportunity for our customers as well as
a networking event designed to provide our customers with a way
to exchange ideas about concepts like, disaster recovery, business
continuity, Sarbanes-Oxley compliance, SOA implementation and Web
to Host concepts. We will also be launching a website dedicated
to the National Users Group Conference, which, will focus on facilitating
communication between I/O Concepts customers and give people a forum
for sharing things like SmartClient rules, implementation
best practices and for suggestions for the next conference. The
next newsletter will have more information about the site including
the url.
Share will be in Tampa
this February and we will once again be there to share in the experience.
Our fall newsletter will have more information.
The Share Users
Conference in Baltimore was again a big success. We continue to
enjoy the participation of the users at Share and the feedback we
get from individuals at Share in invaluable. The I/O Concepts Sponsored
presentation on Disaster Recovery had a great turn out and a lot
of great questions from the audience. We handed out I/O Concepts
playing cards to people who stopped by the booth, participated in
the Share Passport giveaway and one lucky participant won a brand
new digital camera! We would again like to give a big thank you
to Cliff Lundeen for doing the presentation and to the people who
stopped by the booth. Share is great because of the attendees and
we are proud to be a part of it.

We have unveiled
a new web site with a whole new look. The new site is designed to
give customers more information about how to implement our products
as well as greater support content. We have added pod casts for
our most recent white papers and news releases, included rss feeds
for product updates and press releases and more importantly made
it easier for customers to download the most current version of
our products.
You can stay up
to date with the latest I/O Concepts News using our News RSS feed.
To take advantage of this feature add http://www.ioconcepts.com/news/rss_feed.xml
to your RSS reader.
We have also released
WebSession 8, which, includes improved thread handling, an
improved servlet implementation and a very powerful client. You
can download the WebSession 8 product from http://www.ioconcepts.com/support/downloads/index.html
Upgrading from WebSession 5 should be simple and our support
staff are more than happy to help!
Our Enterprise
management suite has been updated to include support for MQ Series.
The Enterprise Management suite can help manage MQ environments,
provide MQ transactions and monitor the progress of messages to
help companies focus in on specific causes of problems.
We have started
hosting monthly structured webinars. Topics range from disaster
recovery best practices to agent less monitoring of your Enterprise.
Our next webinar will be held on September 12th of 2006. You can
register by opening a browser to http://www.ioconcepts.com/events/index.html
and filling out the registration form. All participants get a free
I/O Concepts giveaway and one lucky winner from each webinar will
receive an Apple iPod!
First thanks to
all who attended the NUGC last weekend. For those of you who didn't
get a chance to see my talk on supporting I/O Concepts Products
here is a link to my presentation.
As mentioned before
we have a new and much improved website thanks to our CTO Bill Bohnenberger
and Senior Sales Executive Scott Humphreys along with some great
advice and consultation from Peg Prideaux! One of the new features
on the website is a revamped support page with a new knowledge base.
This is a work in progress so check back frequently for updates.
If there are any topics that you would like to see covered drop
a line to support@ioconcepts.com.
One topic that
I covered that doesn't relate directly to I/O Concepts but was well
received were my coverage of windows shortcuts. Any time you can
use the keyboard and not have to reach for the mouse will increase
your productivity substantially. The windows key is a little known
key that has lots of power - find it and use it! (If you don't know
what this is look for the key between the ctrl and alt with the
funny flag on it.) Here are some of my favorite shortcuts:
Windows
- R:
This opens a Run box. Most applications can be started by typing
the name of the application here. You can also add keys to the
registry to start programs that are not set up to do this. You
can also open a dos (command) box to runs commands from that window.
Here are some examples of this:
Cmd for a command box
Cmd /k command (This opens the command box and then
runs the chosen command leaving the command box open for further
commands)
Cmd /k ipconfig /all >ip.txt (This is the dos version of the
pipe putting the output of the command in a file that you name.)
Windows -
M or D: Minimize all - Desktop
Windows - E: Explorer Window
Windows - F: Find Box
Finally here are few
tips on how to gather information on an errant system:
WINMSD: From the run
box type winmsd. Then do save to nfo file to gather ALL the pertinent
details on the system.
MSCONFIG:
From the run box type msconfig. This is built into XP but you can
use the win98 version of this on 2K boxes. This is a quick way to
see what services are started, what is in the startup group and
what is being started because of registry entries. It is also a
great way to speed up your system startup by getting rid of some
of those extra items that don't need to be started at boot like
quicktime and the like. You can also set the system to boot in a
number of troubleshooting modes like safe mode with this utility.
