Automation

ioEnterprise Automation is an event management rules engine platform. This platform provides the tools you need to automate the management of your mainframe events and enables best-practice resolutions to system events in order to free up operator resources and minimize downtime.

The customizable rules engine of ioEnterprise Automation sorts through the millions of messages generated by your mainframes, highlighting only those events that require attention, triggering alerts or automatic responses to events based on rules you determine, and can alert appropriate individuals of the event.

  • Automate responses to common errors directly back to the mainframe
  • Escalate critical messages that go unanswered automatically, all the way to e-mail or pagers
  • Customizable automation rules can be written for practically any scenario

ioEnterprise Automation can also take events from many different sources, including mainframe (System z, zSeries, System 390), midrange (System i, iSeries, i5, AS/400), PC, UNIX and Linux systems, consolidate them, and run rules against them.

Streamline Data with a Rules-Based Automation Engine

A rules-based event management engine makes it easy for you to normalize, filter, prioritize, and collate/suppress events from the stream of messages being produced by all the systems being monitored.  This consolidates events from different technologies into a standard set of data, removes unimportant and duplicate events, and enables the identification of critical events in the ioEnterprise Automation viewer or within your current BSM event viewer.

  • Best practices rules ready out-of-the-box for use or modification
  • Establish rules for normalizing, filtering, and prioritizing events
  • Anything is possible! Rules can be written easily for an endless number of scenarios, allowing your company to prioritize and automate event management and responses based on your specific business needs.

Distribute Events Based on Rules

Once messages are consolidated and prioritized, events can be distributed to end users or suppressed from view. Distributing only important events and suppressing non-critical messages allows operations staff members to handle host system operations more efficiently. Messages can be routed so that only those events pertaining to specific systems or LPARs are viewed by the operations team responsible for those specific systems. Or, rules can consolidate messages so that one staff member can manage many host systems from a single viewer. Rules can page or email staff members, alerting them to critical situations.

Distributing events allows staff from remote sites to manage host systems, allowing operations from two or more sites to be consolidated to a single, centralized location.

Leverage Your Current Automation Systems—Automatically

ioEnterprise Automation can enhance a company’s ability to monitor the mainframe environment for security and management purposes, in conjunction with their existing BSM package or using the ioEnterprise Event Manager. Many organizations have already implemented management solutions for their heterogeneous systems, often investing a lot of time and money to optimize their mission-critical systems. ioEnterprise Event Manager has unique capabilities that allow it to seamlessly integrate with these third-party management solutions—giving you a central point of event management for all your existing systems and protecting the investments you have made in your existing infrastructure.

ioEnterprise Automation rules can use attributes of events and messages that have been set by onboard automation systems to identify native priorities and alert levels.  For example, a mainframe may use AutoOPERATOR to change critical messages to ‘red’ and messages that require a reply may be set to ‘white.’ ioEnterprise Automation can use the color of these messages to interpret the correct priority.

Rules can also interface with other IT Service Management (ITSM) tools, allowing trouble tickets to be cut automatically for critical events.

ioEnterprise Automation Viewer

ioEnterprise Automation viewers provide an enhanced workbench for working with events. For example, mainframe console events can be displayed in a native console format with enhanced capabilities. Operators can scroll back through console messages and search for specific events. ioEnterprise Automation also receives all console messages, including NIP console messages after an IPL. This capability, along with message scroll-back means that issues with a failed IPL can be quickly diagnosed, saving hours of downtime.
